Henry’s DNA test!

December 7, 2017 by CVRR

One of the most common questions in rescue is “what breed is it?” and thats a puzzle if we have little to no background on the dog. I tell people mutt is the best breed 😉 but we know that breed can play a role in the dogs personality and health. I like to think they take the best of all the breeds in their DNA!

When I adopted Henry…ok foster failed our best guess was Yorkshire Terrier Mix, we thought maybe schnauzer with his hair texture and his length. I have never done a dog DNA test and finally decided with his special needs (he had his leg amputated-came in with a broken leg that was required) we should eventually do one.

So when CVRR began the process to participate in DNA fundraiser I finally opted to purchase a kit. Knowing a portion of the proceeds went to CVRR I no longer had any other reservations in purchasing 😉

When I got Henry’s results back my jaw dropped!! So before I give the results away I would love to hear what breed you think Henry is!! There are 3 breeds in his make up!

***Please note the dog pictured below, Henry is not adoptable, he is my adopted rescue tripawd*** I tried to show all his angles to give you the best option at guessing his breed**This is to showcase how difficult it is to determine breed with little to no background. ***

Stay tuned on results of Henry AND how to purchase a DNA kit where a portion of the proceeds go to CVRR

– Kalea

——-Read below to see the results!———–

So Henry was pretty excited to tell you all the results and more about the DNA Fundraiser we are having!

He said he was a little shocked by the results since I’ve always called him my “Schnorkie Yorkie Lovebug”…

The best way to describe his make up is primarily Maltese with dachshund with a splash of Shih Tzu 😂

Only 1 person guessed Maltese yesterday and they said it was a wild guess!! And that is his primary make up for his breed!!

If you have ever seen the DNA results for humans you know they give range but can never say 100% its 99.9%…

So Henry breed make up from the test is:
Maltese range is Level 2: 47-74%
Dachshund range is Level 3: 20-36%
Shih Tzu range is Level 4: 10-20%

So the best way to describe him is a “Mauxie” and I was able to read more on his breed and personality. We have always called him our “Lion Cub” and we love that 2 of his breeds have the nickname of “Lion” of some sort!! It fits him so well!!

Now to talk business about the fundraiser 🙂 *how a portion of the proceeds go to the rescue*
*Purchase the kits directly from CVRR for $10 (CVRR keeps this)
*Complete the swab steps and mail to DNAMYDOG sending in the additional $58.98 to the company

* You can track the results in online. From the date I mailed 7/6 I received the results on 7/19!

Contact us if you would like to get a DNA kit from us!! You can also see more ways to help us here.

I will work on uploading in the comments the certificate along with the other page write up they sent to me as well.

And yes my dog Henry gives me some interesting looks👀

Central Virginia Regional Rescue
Yesterday alone, CVRR welcomed 22 kittens into our care.We saw the plea for help from a local animal shelter in a neighboring county. Every single cat kennel in their facility was full. They had reached code red (maximum capacity), and with new cats and kittens continuing to arrive, impossible decisions were looming. We knew we had to do what we could.22 tiny lives were transferred into our care, 22 lives saved, 22 lives now have a chance because our community refuses to look away when animals need help. But rescue is truly a team effort, and taking in 22 kittens at once comes with an enormous need for supplies and resources. Our foster homes are filled with hungry little mouths, messy litter boxes, and kittens who will need medical care, vaccinations, and lots of love before they're ready for adoption.Right now, our most urgent needs are:🐾 Wet kitten food🐾 Dry kitten food🐾 Pee pads🐾 Kitten litter**🏠 more kitten foster homes 🏠**If you've been thinking about helping, now is the time. Donations from our kitten wishlist make an immediate impact, and monetary donations help us purchase supplies and cover veterinary care for these little ones. And more foster homes are our only option for being able to continue helping kittens.Kitten season is relentless, and shelters and rescues throughout our region are feeling the strain. Yesterday's transfers may have helped create space for more animals in need, but the crisis is far from over.Thank you for standing with us, supporting local rescue efforts, and helping us give these 22 kittens the future they deserve. Every bag of food, every box of litter, every dollar donated helps save lives.Together, we can make sure these kittens know safety, comfort, and love instead of uncertainty. ❤️🌟 WISHLISTS 🌟 🐈‍⬛ Chewy: bit.ly/cvrr-chewy 🐈‍⬛ Amazon: bit.ly/cvrr-kittens🌟 DONATE 🌟 🐈 Venmo.com/CVRRescue 🐈 PayPal.me/CVRRescue 🐈 cvrrescue.org/donate 🌟 SIGNUP TO FOSTER KITTENS 🌟 cvrrescue.org/foster-application ...
