Do I Really Need a Puppy Under 6 Months?

August 11, 2017 by CVRR

Do I need a puppy under six months?

Do you time at least every other day for an outing to a new location? In order to be confident and well mannered, puppies need to experience life in the busy world. The need to meet people of different ethnicities, ages, and sizes. They need to walk across bridges, passed motorcycles, and befriend livestock. They need to know that “new things” are ok. Simply put, their brains are forming. If you can’t help support a healthy adjustment to society, focus on the adoption of an adult instead.

Do you have a reasonable work schedule for potty breaks. This one is a no brainer but tinier bladders need more frequent breaks.

Is your life stable? Puppies need consistency. If your are going through a new life transition (new baby, difficult
transition with a toddler, moving, starting a new career, newly married) consider waiting until life settles down.
You want to be able to get off of the right foot. You can’t do that if you only have one leg beneath you to start.

Are all members of the household aware of how VERY troublesome puppies can be, and onboard with being patient, tolerant, and ready to help? Trips out to pee every 30 min to an hour with a young puppy when not crated. It’s REALLY hot…are you up for it? Your shoes will inevitably be chewed, your legs and hands scratched from over exuberance and lack of bite inhibition, your schedule will be flipped upside down! Think hard because adoption is a lifetime commitment….. Like marriage…you may not always like your “partner” every minute…but he is yours for the long haul 😉

Hey there, I’m Pepper! 🐾 I’m on the hunt for my forever family—could it be you? I’m a sweet, loyal companion who loves making furry friends and thrives on all the cuddles and connections I can get. When I’m outside, I’m an inquisitive explorer, soaking up every scent and sound—squirrels, birds, you name it! I can get a little excited and may try to jump up when I’m overjoyed, but don’t worry—I settle down quickly once I know we’re pals. I’d really thrive in a home with a fenced-in backyard where I can zoom around to my heart’s content, or with an owner who’s up for brisk walks to keep me happy and healthy.Inside, I’m all about belly rubs (I’ll flop onto my back the second you reach for my tummy) and being a well-mannered, attentive snuggle buddy. I get along wonderfully with other dogs and, honestly, couldn’t care less about cats—I promise I won’t bother yours. I’m smart, eager to please, and my playful side comes out in full force when I’m chasing balls or discovering new toys. After playtime, you’ll find me curling up right next to you, content and ready for whatever adventures tomorrow brings. With my affectionate, adaptable nature, I’d fit in beautifully in almost any home. If you’re looking for a devoted friend who’s always up for fun—and then a cozy cuddle—let’s meet! I can’t wait to be part of your family. I am up-to-date on all vaccines and flea/tick prevention, spayed, crate-trained, and leash-trained, Apply for me at cvrrescue.org. My adoption fee is $200. ... See MoreSee Less
