Cleo Diaries (Diaries of a Foster Dog)

January 8, 2018 by CVRR

Day 1

First day in the life of foster care from Cleo!

I Begin the day with some vaccines and yucky yellow stuff (dewormer) provided by the sweet shelter workers.

Then go on a freedom ride to my foster home…yesterday was my first day out for this giant hole (a shed for 11 weeks of my life) and really my first day with people!

Met my foster mommy and the residents animals. One of them growled (he’s 8 pounds and sometimes bossy from what the other dogs say, but after awhile he loves to play with the puppies…at least that what my new doggie “aunty Pluto Anne” said)

Then I explore the house.

My foster Mom Hand feeds me because the idea of a bowl is scary.

I explored the toy bin. Never seen toys before so I watched my foster mommy try to approach me and show me.

I hide in a corner. Then slowly come out then run back in the corner…

Where my foster mommy goes I follow though. She seems nice I’m just not sure…

I then discover the huge mirror and stare at my “siblings” …my foster mom said it’s “bath time”…I discovered I was ok with it after awhile.

Then I’m told I need to try out the crate…I’m not a fan. I’ve been in dark places but I just want to choose where I want to lay but I settled after 10 min.

My foster mommy said I was a good girl for 30 min in the crate and can come out to play!!

I decided I needed to keep this lady in my sights instead so she invited me on the chair to cuddle with her. I enjoyed that a lot and stretched out. It was warm. I also got kicked by her tummy. She said it was the baby in her belly I plopped my head back down…I think that’s ok?!

Now some bathroom and play time and then mommy hugged and kissed me and said “good night Cleo” and placed me in a crate with a warm blanket and my two new favorite toys!! She said they were new toys donated at the market yesterday. None of this makes sense it’s all new, but I think I feel safe.

We’ll see what tomorrow brings. I know it gets better at least the nice lady keeps saying that and I want to believe her. She gives soft treats…but I know there will be new adventures.

Day 2

Well it’s really my third official day, but when your foster mommy is pregnant she goes to bed and forgets to post my adorable video…

But that’s ok she told me this morning I’m the best sleeper ever! (From her foster mommy, Cleo goes to bed around 9 takes 10-20 min to stop crying and then sleeps till 6:30)!

On my second day I was able to eat more out of my bowl, the food is so good! I did dump half of it out because when it got low I felt the bowl was a little weird. I mean why can’t food just be on the ground?

My foster mom did a weird dance when I would pee outside and when my poop had no more “worms”?! And said that “pryantal” did the trick!?!

Idk she makes up a lot of works I think.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE ALL THE DOG TOYS…I even take them ALL AND PUT THEM IN MY CRATE!! Toys are the best! I like rope toys, chew toys, nylabones, non stuffed toys, tennis balls, stuffed toys…the loud squeaky ones are a little scary though.

Blanket forts are fun too. I took two blankets and my favorite toy and built a fort in the middle of the living room. Blankets are so much better then the dirt floor shed I “grew” up on!!

My foster brother Henry lets me play with him now and doesn’t growl…as much. He’s a little funny since he has 3 legs. Guess I would be if I couldn’t hop and dance everywhere I went to.

I love being rubbed and found if I lick humans more she laughs and keeps rubbing me.

The idea of a collar…still a little odd and she puts the leash on too…said I’ll grow used to it! 🤷🏻‍♀️

I found out I have a date later this week? They have older kids and another dog.

And as for Day 3 diary entry… I’m romping and playing this morning but my foster mommy said no food since I have to go to Riverside Veterinary Hospital to be spayed in a few. But she said packed away some of my food for after. I hope they love to hold me and pet me there.

Day 4 & 5

I came back to my foster home after my spay day…honestly I loved the cuddles and attention from the awesome staff Riverside Veterinary Hospital I think it was a spa day?

I did get my nails got clipped and I got love!! My foster mommy said I will always be a puppy at heart and no motherhooodnfor me…? Not sure what she means but I’m happy to be back and able to find my favorite toy stash again.

My foster mommy laughed because I pulled out EVERY single toy as soon as I got home. Then I passed out. I mean my “uncles and aunts” were snoozing so I thought I should do the same plus I think the medicine I got made me sleepy…

See I love rubs, toys and other doggies. My mommy says my date is Friday! She said I probably shouldn’t do a post, but knew people had been following my story.

I LOVE all the blankets and keep pulling them off the couch to the ground. Im not sure why she puts them up. They are so much more comfortable then the hard ground (under the shed) that my first 11 weeks were spent.

I love the people at CVRR one of the volunteers picked me up at my spay to help my foster mommy out. She was super sweet ❤️

When you #SupportCVRR you are supporting animals like me. I’ve heard we have puppies, dogs and senior dogs. Even cats. There’s one in my foster home. They seem alright and even those are kitties, cats, and senior cats!!

#AdoptionRocks I hope you check out some of my CVRR friends at www.cvrrescue.org/available-animals

Also these blue paper taste yummy but I was told I can’t eat it but people should come on out to Chili’s Grill & Bar on Wards Road across from the airport. I can’t come but sounds yummy!! I hope my foster mommy shares (from her: I won’t but they’ll get some nice soft chewy treats instead ☺️)

Well that’s all for now I’m off to play with my favorite wuby that Flat Creek Pet Care donated…they even donate that annoying collar I wear, but I love their toys so their pretty cool!!

I got adopted!

For those who followed my story I thank you. My foster mommy and CVRR helps me start on the right paw! I’m still learning but…I am only 11 weeks old 😁

Trusting that a pet/rub is a good thing, that humans give treats and that other doggies are so much fun to play with.

I’m ok with a collar and leash…well sometimes. That’s why when my foster mommy sent me to my new home she put a martingale collar in me.

Oh thats right I said NEW Home!! I was adopted! I have a new canine sibling and 3 older sibling and a new mommy and daddy to love on me.

When I first met I was a little unsure until my foster mommy let me know I can trust them. I warmed up to the idea of them, but it was the canine sibling that won me over and the sweet younger human sibling.

My foster mommy has gotten video and picture updates (see collage) and I know my foster mommy is so happy for me!!

So next time you want a new canine friend reach out, apply and look at CVRR animals or your local shelter.

Friends of Campbell County Animal Control Harmony Rescue, Inc.Friends of Bedford County Animal Shelter Friends Of Amherst County Animal Care and Control- VA Humane Society of Amherst County to name a few!!

My foster mommy says it’s a community effort and to educate.

For instance my adoption fee yes was $225 but that covered my spay, microchip, dhpp, bordetella, rabies, flea/tick and dewormer. My foster mommy even sent me home with some (yucky) dewormer since she was gonna do another “round” on Saturday.

Look into what the fee is and what they do.

For me it was vetting but most importantly socialization till a family was willing to continue that socialization , love and care!

**Bella - SPICY Diva**Bella is a 2-year-old chorkie (Yorkie + Chihuahua), which basically means she comes pre-loaded with confidence, loyalty, and just a touch of “I run this house.” 😄 Please DO NOT APPLY FOR HER WITHOUT READING HER FULL PROFILE. Yorkies were bred to be bold little hunters, and Chihuahuas are famously devoted to their person—so when you combine the two, you get a dog who is loving, alert, and… >>>very selective.Bella doesn’t do “strangers.” She does “approved guests only,” and even that list can change without notice. One person walks in? She’s in love. The next? She’s launching a full investigation… starting with your shoes. And yes—we mean that literally--a full on attack of the shoes! If Bella doesn’t like you, your shoes are not safe. 😅There is no clear pattern to who she chooses. Bella simply loves who she loves—and if she doesn’t, she will let you know quickly. ***She may also go after another small dog if she’s not pleased, so she will need careful management, slow introductions, or to be the only pet in the home.***Now the flip side—when Bella chooses you? She is all in. 💛You’ll have a fiercely loyal, ride-or-die cuddle buddy who will happily claim her spot next to you on the sofa and take her job as your personal security system very seriously. The fine print (because Bella insists):! Must be willing to actively socialize and manage her OR! Be comfortable crating her when guests visit! Must understand she may be protective, reactive, and unpredictable with new people! Must be prepared to manage interactions with other small dogs! Must accept that Bella is the one conducting the interviewsThe perks:✔️ Crates like a pro✔️ Loves snuggling (on her terms, of course)✔️ Enjoys chasing tennis balls and chewing on Kong toys✔️ Big personality in a tiny, scruffy packageBella isn’t just looking for a home—she’s looking for her person. And trust us… she will let you know if that person is you.Apply if you’re ready to be chosen.Because Bella? She ain’t playin’. 😎🐶 ... See MoreSee Less
